ShopperTrak Reports Year-Over-Year Retail Sales Rise 6.5 Percent for Week Ending March 15

Week-Over-Week Sales Rise 2.4 Percent

CHICAGO – March 18, 2008 - ShopperTrak RCT Corporation's National Retail Sales Estimate™ (NRSE) today reported that sales for the week ending March 15 rose a strong 6.5 percent as compared to the same time period in 2007 as consumers visited various retail locations to take advantage of early Easter promotions last week. This latest increase marks the 10th year-over-year improvement out of a possible 11 weeks so far in 2008.

Additionally, week-over-week retail sales also showed an increase as spending continues to build momentum nearing Easter, with sales for the week ending March 15 rising 2.4 percent as compared to the previous week ending March 8.

“While retailers should be pleased with the continued strong consumer turnout despite continued talk of a recession, the industry should remain cautiously optimistic as we expect retail performance will return to slower, more seasonal pattern following the holiday,” said Bill Martin, co-founder of ShopperTrak.

Developed by ShopperTrak, the NRSE provides a nationwide benchmark of retail sales. It is derived from the U.S. Commerce Department's GAFO (general merchandise, apparel, furniture, sporting goods, electronics, hobby, books and other related store sales) statistic, as well as ShopperTrak's proprietary industry intelligence on shopper movement and sales statistics. This gives retailers, investors and policy makers the most accurate and timely information on consumer trends available today.
