ShopperTrak Predicts Top 10 Shopping Days of Holiday 2007

Black Friday Predicted as Top Retail Sales Day for Season

CHICAGO - September 18, 2007 - ShopperTrak RCT Corporation's National Retail Sales Estimate™ (NRSE) today revealed its predictions for the top 10 shopping days of the 2007 holiday shopping season.

Because the 2007 holiday season is the longest possible, with 32 calendar days between Thanksgiving and Christmas (as compared to 31 last year), ShopperTrak expects many consumers to shop very bi-modally, peaking early, then late in the shopping period, with a slight lull in between. That being said, ShopperTrak expects early shoppers to boost Black Friday sales (November 23) with procrastinating consumers driving retail sales gains the weekend directly preceding Christmas (December 21-23).

The full list of the top 10 sales days, as forecasted by ShopperTrak, is as follows:

Rank Day of Week Date
1 Black Friday Nov. 23, 2007
2 Super Saturday Dec. 22, 2007
3 Saturday Dec. 15, 2007
4 Friday Dec. 21, 2007
5 Sunday Dec. 23, 2007
6 Wednesday Dec. 26, 2007
7 Saturday Dec. 8, 2007
8 Saturday Dec. 1, 2007
9 Thursday Dec. 20, 2007
10 Saturday Nov. 24, 2007

"Throughout the year, consumers have been showing a trend towards purpose shopping during periods like back to school and Easter, and we expect this trend to continue during the holidays when consumer behavior will be heavily driven by sales and other promotions during the season," said Bill Martin, co-founder of ShopperTrak. "Just as we observed during the 32-day 2001 holiday season, Black Friday sales numbers should spike due to the high number of promotions and door buster sales leading into the annually robust shopping day, then spike again late in the season as procrastinating consumers head out to complete their shopping."

Based on historical data, ShopperTrak correctly predicted nine out of the top ten retail sales days for the 2006 holiday season, with numbers one through six coming in exactly as the company anticipated.
