ShopperTrak Measures Apple iPad Launch Traffic

Early this past Sunday morning , just a few hours after the last Apple Store concluded “iPad Launch Saturday,” ShopperTrak transmitted to Apple management a crucial measurement of their results—store traffic, the number of shoppers who came to each of Apple’s 221 US stores to see the iPad.
Why is Apple Store traffic information so crucial to Apple? Because sales and transaction information only tells Apple who purchased an iPad Saturday. With store traffic, Apple knows the size of the opportunity the launch generated and that will have a direct impact on future iPad purchases.
Before continuing, and as is the case with all ShopperTrak clients, Apple Store traffic is completely proprietary to Apple, and only Apple can decide to release the store traffic results for the iPad launch.
Obviously Apple knows that the hard-core enthusiasts bought on Saturday – with 300,000 iPad’s sold throughout the day – but I think they will be even more interested in measuring the curiosity factor that surrounds the iPad...how many people came to Apple stores to see this new product?
Over the last 20 years, we’ve proven store traffic is the only way that Apple can measure this curiosity factor. I expect that, when they compare Saturday’s iPad launch traffic to Apple store traffic since the beginning of the year—the company will find that store traffic was through the roof!
